Hookah / Shisha Charcoal
Cube and flat charcoal sized for hookah and shisha. The most common cube sizes are 25mm, 26mm and 27mm — the size choice affects heat output, burn time and how the charcoal fits the bowl.
Sizes
| Size | Typical Use | Buyer Consideration |
|---|---|---|
| 25mm cube | Standard hookah sessions | Moderate heat and burn time; a common default. |
| 26mm cube | Standard hookah sessions | Slightly higher heat and longer burn than 25mm. |
| 27mm cube | Longer sessions / larger bowls | Higher heat output; fewer pieces needed. |
What to Evaluate
- Ash content — lower ash means less residue and cleaner smoking.
- Burning time — how long a cube sustains usable heat.
- Odor — neutral odor is preferred for hookah; charcoal should not add taste.
- Ignition — time to full glow and consistency across a batch.
- Spark level — low sparking is preferred for safety and clean sessions.
Verified product entries for hookah charcoal are added to the product database after supplier verification. We do not publish unverified specifications.
Specification Context
One product record in the database carries declared values for hookah charcoal — the 25 mm natural coconut shell cube. The figures below are reproduced for context and are supplier-declared, not independently verified by Charcoal Hub. The 26 mm and 27 mm records currently carry size-class data only (pieces per kilogram); no batch specification values are published for those sizes.
| Parameter | Declared value | Method cited |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed carbon | ≥ 80% | ASTM D3172 |
| Volatile matter | ≤ 12% | ASTM D3175 |
| Ash content | ≤ 3.5% (typical 3.0%) | ASTM D3174 |
| Moisture | ≤ 5% | ASTM D3173 |
| Sulphur | ≤ 0.1% | ASTM D4239 |
| Burning time | ~60 min (claims up to 120 min) | Condition-dependent — no universal standard |
| Ignition time | 8–12 min | Supplier-declared |
Buyer Checklist
- Method and basis. Confirm which method produced each figure and whether it is dry or as-received.
- Batch linkage. Ask which batch, sample and date each number describes.
- Raw report. Request the laboratory report, not a summary PDF.
- Moisture at origin. Check moisture at origin and on arrival — hookah charcoal is hygroscopic.
- Size and tolerance. Confirm the nominal cube size and tolerance; verify with calipers on a sample.
- Odour neutrality. Assess odour on a blind sample in your own bowl — this is a session test, not a datasheet line.
- Acceptance clause. Agree sampling and the remedy for an out-of-spec arrival in the purchase order.
Verification Status
No hookah charcoal product has yet been independently verified by Charcoal Hub. Published figures are supplier-declared and labelled as such. Verified test reports will be published on the testing sub-site as they become attributable.
